All Souls’ Day

Sunday 2 November 2025

View from my kitchen window

Attended 10:00 mass in Lordship.  A very large choir.  Olivia (organ), Lorraine (whistle), Catherine Baldwin, the woman who sometimes sings in Jenkinstown choir, Cliona, Marie McDermott, Sean Caraher, Anna Kiely, me, Ambrose McDermott, James Connolly.  The singing was good except for the final bar of the last hymn.

  1. Seek Ye First
  2. There Are Many Rooms.  Cliona solo.  Choir on the chorus
  3. Soul of My Saviour
  4. An Irish air on the tin whistle accompanied by the organ
  5. Walk, Walk in the Light
  6. We also sang Holy, Holy; Save Us Saviour of the World; Lamb of God

Olivia very friendly to me when I was leaving the church.  Choir practice in a few weeks for the Carol Service.  I took a walk in Giles’ Quay after mass.  Bright morning.  Blue sky.  Cold breeze.  I was wearing my gloves and needed them.  A cappuccino in The Station House Café.  Sitting in the sun outside talking to Seán Keenan.  Must meet him again next Sunday to arrange a walk down by Gyles’ Quay.

I had the intention of visiting GreenLife.  Although I passed a few motions I got no wet until after 14:00.

13:22.  Passed 3 motions.  No wet.  Put back on my street clothes.

14:38.  800ml (wide).  Fruity orange

22:00.  800ml.  Orange

So having catheterised I drove to GreenLife arriving soon after 15:00.  Struck 50 balls (I think.  It did not feel as if the hopper produced all the 50 balls I poured in at the start of the session).  Used the driver exclusively.  Reasonable results.  Hitting it around 170m.  Shopped in Lidl.  Spent €37.58.  Milk, cream, oranges, bananas, strawberries, blueberries, crumbed ham slices, roast beef slices, turkey slices, Edam, cheddar, peppered cheese, pâté, yoghurt, wholegrain mustard, bread, croissants.

  • Weetabix, sliced banana, milk.  Tea
  • A Lidl brown pan sandwich made with butter, 1 2/3 slices of Edam, 2 slices of crumbed ham.  An orange
  • Coffee, cream.  Croissant
  • Fusilli reheated in the microwave, olive oil; Bolognese sauce reheated on the hob.  Greek Style natural Irish yoghurt, 15 washed seedless black grapes.  A full wine glass of sangria (50% orange juice) made with the remnant of Pinot Grigio taken from the fridge.  Coffee, cream

I washed up thoroughly after dinner.  Tidied and swept the kitchen.  Then settled down to write my journal for today.  22:58.

I dressed in night gear before dinner at around 21:15.  Grey soft slippers, grey tartan bottoms, blue Dunne’s Store’s top with buttons at the neck.  My Manchester United robe is draped over the armchair at the left of my Parker Knoll where I am working now.

My bowel was active.  A lot of rather small motions.  Clean.  My bladder was not frequent.  Volumes in the catheter more or less regular.  No particular problem catheterising.  A lot of urges in the afternoon before I got a wet.  The same around dinner time.

I was busy today and my mood was good.  Got through things without error or accident.  I think I will go to the driving range again on the next clear day.  A clear cold day today; it is raining now.  Temperatures of 13° expected tonight.  I will open the ventilators in my bedroom when I am going to bed.

Copilot begins

Before heading to bed, I made sure to check the windows in the living room and hallway, ensuring everything was secure. I also set out my clothes for the morning to make it easier to get ready after waking up. The routine helped me feel organised and prepared for the next day.

 Copilot ends

23:13.  Fr. Stephen Duffy was celebrant this morning assisted by Fr. Pádraig Murphy.  Incense at mass.

My morale in bed between 06:00 and 08:00 was poor.  Depressed.  Worried.  Uptight.  Feeling inadequate.  Felt better when I catheterised. Gave €5 to Saint Vincent de Paul on my way into mass.  Liam Manning minding the box.

08:30.  Soiled the floor in Aisling’s bathroom.  2 long easy thin motions.  Wet.  750ml.  Dark orange.  Washed face and body using a face cloth and cold water.  I had been up several times since around 06:00 with a strong urge each time.  But no wet or bowel movement save wind.

09:00.  No wet.  80ml.  Orange.  Washed face in cold water.  Dressed: black Clarks double-zipped boots, black Nike DRI-FIT socks, steel blue light trousers with burgundy striped suspenders, black boxers, white vest, pedlar’s white shirt, grey lamb’s wool sleeveless FootJoy pullover, blue Stena fleece, black woolly cap, driving glasses, black gloves
