Concra; sdtbm; Shower; Sirloin Steak

Wednesday 3 August 2011.

Trundled out to Concra Wood early for my 12.50 start in the Seniors’ Open. Purchased a tank of petrol, €31, and a Snickers Duo on the way in Bellurgan Service Station. Clocked in in the pro shop and sat in the bar for a while munching my way through the Snickers Duo. €25 entry paid with my MBNA Visa card. Read through the local rules on the back of the card and looked at the yardages. Played off the green tees with Daniel a thin man, a diabetic, from Elm Park; and David and Philip two sturdy gentlemen and good golfers from Glengormley. I thoroughly enjoyed my round and we all agreed Concra is a lovely layout. I sweated in my long sleeved black Mizuno golf gansy and not wearing a glove the driver was insecure in my hands and slipped on the 10th tee where I pulled my drive to the left high into the tiger rough hopelessly lost. Otherwise I struck it well including one sdtbm on the last where I struck a 5-iron second pin high to the right of the green. Nice chip and a short down-hiller for a 4 to finish. Holed a nice 5’ side hill putt on the 9th green. 28 points. Daniel whose card I marked scored 22. The two strongmen scored 31 each playing quite good golf. I read tomorrow that 44 or 45 points won! Took a nice shower in the airy big bright locker room and changed my clothes taking off the dark stuff and assuming a white long-sleeved Ralph Lauren semi-polo shirt, dark striped braces, black boxers, silver Robbie slacks and belt, fawn cotton non-elasticised socks, brown zip ankle boots, glasses. Drank a pint of iced tap water in the bar and ordered the dearest item on the menu, a sirloin steak, well done. Lovely chips melting in the mouth, nice cream pepper sauce, a large grilled mushroom, a halved grilled tomato, fried onion. I masticated it all with relish except the mushroom. Very tempting, I told the coolly efficient and very personable attractive young waitress, but I thought the safest thing to do in light of my allergy was to leave it behind me on the large rectangular plate. The steak cost approximately €25 and I also drank a lovely pot of coffee, €2.50. Michael O, James McCormack, Eugene Woods, Peadar Gallagher; came in to the bar while I was polishing off my steak. “I don’t believe you!” I said to James McCormack when he rather grudgingly volunteered that he is two years older than me, “I’d have to see your birth certificate.” Paid with my MBNA Visa card no problem. The woman at the desk pleasant and prepared to chat in a business like way. It must have been 21.00 when I reached home. Rosanna had already returned on the train from Dublin where she had rendezvoused with Aisling and visited Óg’s house. I think we talked golf comparing Greenore unfavourably with Concra. As usual I was a bit on tenterhooks all day paying attention to detail and striving to make no wrong moves or forget something. But I had a really enjoyable and fulfilling day in a remarkable place. A young lady from the Irish Independent rang my mobile while I was eating and tried to pump me about Sellafield. I putted a round with 2 or 3 balls on the putting green before teeing off and my putting today was a lot more solid than usual. More ambition and more care than is my wont. The ranger kept in touch especially towards the end of the round. Very easy to get on with, nice to talk to, sensible, a good sense of proportion. Philip Clarke used a belly putter and sank a few long ones at the start including a birdie at the first where I scored 6. I had a shortish one for birdie on the first downhill feature hole where I had only a short pitch with SI from the middle of the fairway to the green; but missed. I made a mess of the 15th hole where my drive struck the far bank and rolled back into the lake. Daniel stuck to me and entered my score on the computer. I read out the numbers off his own card and mine for him to key in to the computer. All very efficiently done with no angst.

Seniors’; Knob; Blue Anchor; Mackerel

Monday 27 June 2011.

Typing now at 15.52 on Wednesday. Played 18 in seniors’ competition starting at 11.40 with Kevin McVeigh, Warrenpoint; Neil Tate, do.; Noel Guinane. I marked Kevin’s card and he marked mine. I think Kevin scored 34 points; all I did was 24 or 26 but I putted reasonably and generally struck the ball quite well. “The best striker in the club!” Noel effused as I faded one down along the trees off the 16th tee. I had only had a chip onto 15 after a big one drawn off the 15th tee. Anyway I took no shower and drank a pint of water chatting with Noel as he consumed a pint of Guinness Light which he purchased for himself. Fried 2 boneless pork chops; 4 small potatoes sliced longitudinally, on a different pan, the small one, with a copious amount of Cookeen. Reheated mashed turnip to which I added a large knob of butter. Boiled a small pot of small potatoes. Ate all except two small boiled potatoes. Used copious amounts of butter with the small potatoes which I consumed last and salt. Extracted some brown sauce from the bottle with difficulty for the fried potatoes. Eric Hynes bought me a mug of coffee, which Elaine prepared, in The Blue Anchor. I proposed that the Greenore Cooley Fisherman’s meeting should be adjourned as a mark of respect to Sheila McCrystal who died this morning. Took a few snaps outside and inside. I thought my effort was sub-standard but on inspection later the photos proved passable. I sent a “slide-show” of them to Dessie who told me on Wednesday that he deleted them in error. As well as Dessie and Eric, Eric Cuthbert looking well rolled up to the Blue Anchor for the meeting which was adjourned in line with my proposal. Cuthbert was delighted to get away early to go to Greenore. He had already been there at 08.00 and caught a mackerel today at 10.15. None of the Finegan’s showed up for the meeting. I think I exercised this morning.

A Lot of Butter; Outclassed; Employment; Duvet; Captain’s Prize

Sunday 3 July 2011.

Attended breakfast and meeting in The Strand starting at 10.00. Ate a lot of butter with my toast and marmalade and thoroughly enjoyed my breakfast. Dermot Mooney and Dessie the others. Nuala joined in to the discussion and Jim Halligan sat down for a while and talked. We were batting the breeze about suicide prevention. I carried on down to Greenore golf club where I played in The President’s Prize (Scobie, senator) with Brian Farrell and Joe Finegan. I was totally outclassed scoring 99 – 14 = 85. Joe; 88 – 12 = 76. Brian; 83 – 8 = 75. Drank a pint of iced water in the bar. Joe was drinking a pint of beer, or was it cider? Brian was having a sandwich and he complained eloquently to me about the price. He was charged much less at a Dublin golf club earlier in the week. I took a shower and had a chat with Jack Burns in the showers. Before we went out to play (Tee-time; 12.49, for me) Jack approached me about DkIT. His daughter is interested in employment there. I did my usual thing, “The front door; not the side door or the back door.” And I more or less indicated that my opinion is that DkIT is a dump in the absolute sense. Changed out of my silver Robbie slacks, white short sleeved T-shirt, into long-sleeved Ralph Lauren semi-polo white golf shirt, black “legal” freshly laundered slacks, black FootJoy golf socks. I forget what shoes I was wearing. It may have been black HushPuppies brogues. A summery day. My upper arms were red from sun. House empty when I got home. Rosanna invited over for coffee by Eleanor. Assembled a plate of cold mash, baked beans, boiled ham, sliced tomato; and scoffed it. Also ate an orange if not two. Well my energy was low despite drinking plenty of water this evening. I could stick it no longer and retired to bed at 20.30. Woke after mid-night sweaty under my duvet. Ate weetabix, sliced banana, milk. Journalled in my robe and pyjamas. I may have washed my teeth at this stage. Took the duvet off my bed and replaced it with an old plain woollen blanket and the coloured Spanish blanket. Lay on in a state between consciousness and dream for the rest of the night and into the morning. Cherry red sky over Dundalk Bay at 05.00. Depressed in the evening my mood mellowed when I got some sleep and I was happy from 12.00 until 03.00. Joe birdied 9 and 13 playing perfect golf. But he added up my score wrong. Chat with Pat McParland before I went out about Richard Boyle. “Gentlemen, may I propose a 10 ball.” Pat sitting at the paralysed computer when I was going in to the shower room. “I broke it,” he exclaimed, “the numbers were too big!” I think he scored 90? I used a variation of Richard’s dictum about weather for the beach rather than golf. “It’s a day for your deck-chair at the beach rather than golf.” To a few different people. My conscience is no longer bothered about repetition. Jack told me a 79 year old over two rounds won the captain’s prize in St. Anne’s this year.

Transplant; Alyssum; Honey; Forecast

Tuesday 28 June 2011.

Exercised. No shower. Made bed. Weetabix and milk. Put on old £20 Michael Lynch black slacks with blue braces, heavy boots, black FootJoy golf socks, white Tom McNulty T-shirt, no vest, glasses. A clear indication that I intended to do some gardening. All I got done was to weed around the cotoneaster opposite the front door and transplant there in the spaces around the Sweet William plants a small tray of white Alyssum. The Sweet William has not yet fully matured. Used the edging tool to tidy the flower bed around the cotoneaster. Ate 2 full rounds of nutty bread ham-and-cheese sandwiches with a mug of tea. One sandwich with fat and the other with lean from the ham remnant I found in the oven of the cooker. Real butter. Siesta 14.00 – 16.00. Rosanna away playing 12 with the lady captain, Jayne Savage. A tin of tuna in oil, 2 sliced tomatoes, 2 buttered slices of nutty brown bread. First of all I ate a double helping of Flahavan’s Oatlets with 3 teaspoonfuls of honey. Boiled the porridge properly without any difficulty. Did not water the transplanted Alyssum waiting for the rain. It was hot this morning and I squashed 2 clegs one on either arm as I weeded and planted this morning. This evening a light shower came around 19.00. Aisling arrived from The Big Smoke soon after the shower to attend Sheila McCrystal’s (87) wake. I went down after Aisling and Rosanna at 20.30. Met Joe Carolan who complimented me on doing well at the golf. Saw Nobby coming out as I pulled my iQ in beside Tom’s black Mercedes following a signal from the bearded Kirk who works for the County Council. The battery was low in the hedge trimmer but I levelled the top and one side of the currant hedge at the side of the house. Surfed. A lot of hits on Sean’s Space yesterday. None at all today. Aisling washed and dried 2 pairs of jeans and promptly left for Dublin. She is not working on Friday the day of my parents’ anniversary mass? 23.40. Ate weetabix and milk. Washed teeth and dentures. Left the radio on sleep mode to hear the forecast and the 00.00 news. Slept the sleep of the just. Blessed myself twice with the small one-decade wooden Italian rosary standing looking at Mrs. McCrystal in frozen pose in the open coffin in the room on the left inside the front door. Pulled with some regrets a lot of small shamrock plants from the flower bed at the front door this morning. Weeds?

Black Van; The Cardinal; Incomplete; Scribbled; Coal

Friday 10 June 2011.

Exercised. Dressed in black “legal” 42” slacks, Argyle grey/black/pink socks, black patent Clarks, white FootJoy golf T-shirt, navy old Stena fleece, sky blue Nike golf cap with on orange ball marker pinned to the peak, glasses. Paul McNeill parked his black van behind my iQ in Main Street, Dunleer. Joined in singing, “Abide with Me,” in the parish church at 12.00. Fr. Murphy’s brother spoke at the lectern. The Cardinal (Seán Brady) was the principal celebrant at mass and he preached extremely well on Fr. John Murphy’s life and person. Bishop Clifford performed the obsequies in Mosstown graveyard where I took out ostentatiously my one decade rosary beads, which were given to me as a gift in Italy. I also tried to sing along with the Salve Regina intoned by all the priests at the end of the burial ceremony. I was delighted to meet Nikki Mackin both before and after the burial ceremony in the graveyard. Shook hands with Fr. John McKeever who looked at me disapprovingly; and with Fr. Pádraig Murphy: at the top of the sloped field where my car was parked. Lovely morning and Fr. Pádraig seemed in the best of humour. I said I was going to see if my brother was up out of bed and that I would try to annoy him. Anyway Teddy gave me tea and chocolate cake. I was not wearing dentures and my left upper gum was sore so I could not masticate anything hard or tough. Played ball with the shitzu. John Byrne showed me round the GAA centre in Darver. Unfinished driveway. Gym, showers, meeting rooms, kitchen, toilets; state of the art: assembly room; incomplete. 6 pitches. The main pitch exactly the same dimensions as Croke Park. A few pitches with artificial surfaces. At home ate salad including ham, cheese, balsamic vinegar; three slices of buttered brown topped with pâté; one slice of buttered brown topped with marmalade; a mug of tea. Fire lit. Rosanna gone to be sub in Greenore for Miele 4xball match v Dundalk. Surprisingly Greenore won I found out when Rosanna returned home near mid-night. Read e-mail. Long phone call from Dessie who wanted to know about the funeral. Ate an orange. Later I came up from the sitting room and prepared sardines-on-toast and put marmalade on a slice of buttered brown. Demolished all with a mug of tea. Scribbled journal for the past two days into my reporter’s notebook. Mentioned Greenore Golf Club to Fr. John Murphy’s brother after the burial and had, by chance, a bit of a conversation with Anthony Murphy, a nephew of Fr. John’s, who is editor of The Dundalk Democrat. Put on my pyjamas and washed my teeth before getting in to bed at 23:45 preparing to rise early for golf tomorrow with Con Rice, Niall and Aidan Mulvanney. Left the ventilator open. Charged the fire in the White Elephant Lounge with coal twice this evening.

Tense; Stone-Baked; Skied; Unworthy; Rosary Beads

Thursday 12 May 2011.

A kind of a tense day on which I was stressed and uptight. Kevin McGeough gave me directions to Finbarr Oakley’s place when I met him in Glenda’s where he drank cappuccino and I quaffed some of a bottle of apple juice. I opted for the bottle when the girl came over and showed me the bottle. “The bottle is €4 and a glass is €2,” she informed me. Kevin paid saying, “You bought me my breakfast last week!” Ate ¾ of a stone-baked pizza which Rosanna bought yesterday in Lidl. Nicely cooked, quite tasty; with a glass of apple juice: for lunch. Packed my kit into my iQ and made my way over to Oakleys’. Mary and Barry there. Finbarr did the donkey work and transferred my bags, shoes, trolley into his 2010 diesel Toyota Avensis. We reached Bettystown far too early for the 17.10 start. So we had coffee, chipped a little, putted. Then I sat for 10 or 15 minutes in the sun on the chair outside the pro shop under the 1st tee until our opponents Conor Carnegie and Gerry Quinn turned up. I skied a good few drives and pulled most of the others; missed 2 short putts. We 4 putted 18 but our score was 85 gross. Conor and Gerry had an unspecified score, higher than ours, but both of them played better golf than I did. Finbarr hit some great drives and irons, particularly 5 or 6 6-irons. We scored 6 on the first par 3 hole and generally had a poor return on the par 3’s. Both Aisling and Dessie rang on my mobile when we were coming off the 17th and Finbarr and Conor pitched a few balls from behind the hillock onto the 18th green. So concentration levels dipped and the rules of golf flew out the window. Took no shower at all today and did not exercise a.m. Dressed as yesterday except that I wore Hush Puppies black brogues. Wore Brendan Tinnelly’s ball maker on the peak of my cap. Very handy. Putted using the set up Alison Nicholas used for chipping on Monday in Blackrock. Quite good results. I drank a pint of iced tap water and ate a dinner of cod goujons nicely cooked, coleslaw, tartare sauce, salad, chips. The journey home was accomplished, it seemed, in an instant. I shouted at Finbarr when he was pulling off the M1 because I could not believe we had already reached the Ballymascanlon Roundabout. I consumed corn flakes, 1 ¼ sliced bananas, milk; for supper. To bed before 01.00. Depressed and dejected after the golf but I did not feel tired. Not as easy to manage the Powakaddy trolley in Bettystown as it is in Greenore. Conor is getting a new trolley with a range-finder in it; and a set of Mizuno irons. Finbarr’s name and mine first out of the hat for the qualifying round of the Pierce Purcell Shield on Saturday. I felt intimidated, worried, unworthy. However Finbarr is playing well. “You will have to cancel the choir on Saturday!” Kevin Gallagher, team captain, exclaimed. I sang dumb. Handed the blonde girl in Glenda’s a pair of rosary beads from Medjugore which I found in the stones at my feet as Kevin and I stood talking outside the shed while he had a drag before we departed. Lovely hanging baskets on display hanging from vertical ropes in the shed.

Assortment; Pregnant; Blank Cheque; Green Cap; Cork

DSCF3140

Sunday 24 April 2011. Easter Sunday

Journalled in the morning. Did not shower or exercise. Made bed, washed face, dressed. White FootJoy T-shirt, silver Robbie slacks, black/green/ red braces, glasses, fawn non-elasticised cotton socks, Grenson Chelsea boots. Wore white FootJoy golf jacket to Greenore. Bought an assortment of chocolate bars in McCrystal’s including a Snickers Duo for myself from Alan Raeburn. Lisa heavily pregnant weeding the hedge in her garden in Greenore. Trés, her sister, made tea and gave me some cake she baked herself. Gavin talked to me. Seán Óg looking more rested and relaxed than usual. 5 ½ weeks since his surgery. Gave a blank cheque signed by Lisa to Graham in the bar in the club. Her sub. Walked back to her house and gave the receipt to Lisa. €770. Lost my green Greenore golf baseball cap. Bought a comfortable light sky blue Nike baseball golf cap from Robert Giles just before I headed out to practice before teeing off at 12.30. €15. Shane Farrell scored 81 – 13 = 68; His dad, Brian, scored 81 – 8 = 73; Me 89 – 15 = 74. Aisling was supposed to call today but didn’t. Filming in Tipping’s Wood with Pádraig McGovern. Ate Snickers before golf and on the 13th tee a ripe banana Brian gave me when I pulled up in the car park before going out to golf. Ate a chicken salad for dinner followed by a juicy large sweet orange. Made and ate a bowl of porridge with Golden Syrup. Corn flakes, sliced banana, milk; for supper. Apricot wheats, milk; for breakfast. Bowels in copious motion this morning and again when I landed in the golf club. Cork crept up from 7 points down in the League Final to pip Dublin by 1 point. Luke Donald lost a playoff at The Heritage to Brandt Snedecker who finished with 64 the best round of the day. Lee Westwood won in Thailand. Louth defeated Westmeath last night in Croke Park. The Division 3 final. Met Seamus McParland on the 12th tee bullshitting about Eric Hynes. Pat practicing his chipping to the old 13th green as we passed by going up the 17th fairway. Big “Hello!” to Dermot Maguire before the start. They were in front of us but out of sight all the way. To bed 00.15. Rosanna in Greenore late where she went to visit and to see Greenore lose to Ardee in the Senior Mixed. Peter McEnaney retrieved my green cap from underneath the bar immediately I enquired. When I came up into the bar again after keying my score into the computer in the locker room. Drank a pint of iced tap water with a slice of lemon. No coffee. Brian and Shane ate before going back to Dublin.

Hooked; Sore; Lost; Stooped; Oscillated

Thursday 21 April 2011 (Holy Thursday)

Shelled out €35 to Fionnuala Dullaghan to enter the DkIT golf outing in Ballymascanlon. Went on the first tee around 10.00 with Gerard Cluskey and his friend Paddy McCormack. I hooked my drive from the 9th tee into the car-park and failed to score with my second ball. But I had already amassed 20 points by then including 4 points at the par 5 up the hill. I had reached the front fringe with a drive and 3-metal. I struggled on the back nine and lost 2 further balls including one at the last where I went for the green after an arrow straight drive. I carved my 3-metal high into the trees guarding the right of the green which is raised shelf-like and guarded in front by a wide stretch of The Flurry River. Gerry Cluskey played powerful and largely error-free golf. But he, too, dinged the last. He finished with 34 points; Paddy McCormack an effective player, 32; me, putting poorly and insane at the last, 33. Fionnuala in reply to my text in the late evening told me I was just pipped for the visitors’ prize and she more or less invited me to the society’s captain’s prize in Concra Wood on 1 June 2011. It was hot today and I felt under pressure later in the round climbing up the far end of the course. Anyway I think I was walking too fast. Paddy showed me a lesion on his face under his left eye. Worried me because I have a sore which never really heals beside my right temple. I was a bit keyed up adding up the cards and togging in at the back of my white 2010 Toyota iQ in the car-park in the front of the hotel. Only found out about the locker-room when I went back to give Gerry Campbell, golf manager, the top bracket of the trolley I had hired from him for €2.50 and to leave back the trolley; after I had placed my clubs in my car. Lost an old Titleist Pro V, a good blue Srixon, a better brand-new blue Srixon with the Greenore crest on it. Lost the latter with my last shot my worst of the day. Drank nothing on the course. Finished off an old bottle of Ballygowan from my golf bag and drank a cup of coffee in The Terrace Bar. €2.50 for coffee. So I spent €40 altogether. Chat with Ann Murray before golf. A pretty putter! Spoke to Turlough O’Brien in the bar. He is only recently returned from Australia. Thin, he was in company with John Redihan who looks happy but stooped, old, thin. Maybe it was the golf? Whatever the reason their appearance had a depressing effect on me but I hope I was diplomatic. I saw sight nor light of Niall Hayden all day? Gerard who seemed to know his way around took a shower. I merely washed my hands and changed my socks although, as usual, I had a blue bag in my car containing a blue and white towel and a change of clothes. House empty on my return. Made lunch of tinned salmon from a plate in the fridge, salad from the Pyrex casserole dish in the fridge, together with all the remaining (stale) white bread from the press sliced thinly and buttered and a few slices of fresh brown bread buttered, some red cheddar sliced, a mug of tea made with two tea-bags. Then I moved from the living-room to The White Elephant Lounge peeled and ate a large tart orange. I made porridge for myself in the evening and ate a full bowl with a sliced banana and a copious dressing of Golden Syrup on top. I also cleaned out and lit the fire in the WEL and later carried out a thorough washing up mostly to get the pot and bowl cleaned after porridge service. The vessels which held the porridge turned out to be cleaner and shinier than the rest. My mood oscillated somewhat today. Tense before golf, dream golf at the start, disillusion, dejection, active and industrious, feeling unworthy and low later on, but perked up by Fionnuala’s text which I did not expect and which arrived long before I realised it came. Blue classic shirt, navy braces, grey/green slacks with belt, black FootJoy golf socks, glasses, navy Nike golf baseball cap, blue woollen cardigan with decorative buttons which I hardly wore at all today because the temperature topped 20⁰C. Ate corn flakes, sliced banana, milk; for supper. Brushed my 5 ½ remaining teeth and cleaned my dentures after I put on my pyjamas. To bed 00.35 leaving two “ventilators” open on my bedroom window. In the car-park after golf I put on a pair of navy FootJoy golf socks which had been used once before. Wore my tan John Evan boots today. White DryJoys with tan lapels on the golf course. Posted letter to Ina Lipman and Daniel Perkins at 08.50 this morning in McCrystal’s on my way to golf. 95c postage, Tesco C6 envelope, Tesco A5 writing pad, air-mail. Declining invitation to the marriage in Philadelphia of their daughter to Edward John Crudden on 27 May 2011.

Lovely Lassies; Chic-lit; Hand-made; Read Only

Tuesday 22 March 2011.

Played 18 starting at 11.10 with Francie Murphy, Paul Byrne, Tommy Hazzard.  Although I had only one ding – on 17 – my total score was 28 points.  Paul Byrne who played like a low handicapper, very correctly, cruised to 40 points off 17.  Tommy  scored < 20 points, I think, and said to me several times that he was not handing in his card.  Francie struck the ball well and scored in the low 30’s.  I poured with sweat and took a shower at the end.  “Three lovely lassies from Bannion!” I exclaimed spotting Rosanna, Ann Davey, Ethna Dowling; outside the door of the ladies’ locker room.  Ann was not impressed.  “It’s a long time since someone called me a lassie,” she remarked.  Wore black shirt, blue Lahinch pullover, grey check woollen slacks, navy FootJoy socks, glasses.  No cap.  Sunburn.  In March!!  Changed into black slacks, black patent Clarks, brown Farah T-shirt, trunks, clean vest, grey sports socks.  Changed my braces at home putting on grey ones instead of the blue ones I assumed after my shower.  They were too long, too stretched.  Attended in the library a talk by Sinéad Moriarty a tall presentable author of half a dozen chic-lit “issue” novels.  Arthur Kinahan snapped me with Sinéad.  I was wearing my grey Lacrosse jacket over my T-shirt, just in from the street.  A woman in a shop across from the museum directed me to the library.  Bought a Mizuno golf towel off Robert before I headed for the 1st tee.  Used no cash.  Credit on my account he told me.  Earlier when I was clocking in I bought a pair of hand-made 9 ½ FootJoy golf shoes.  €129.  “Less than cost price,” Robert remarked when I sought a concession.  Robert Giles gave none.  I paid with my UB debit card.  €3 for a trolley.  Jim Irwin for €5 gave me 10 or 12 old Pro V balls.  I played my round today with an old Pro V ball discoloured with age and regularly drove it off the tee with driver and Irons past my companions.  Used 9 off the 6th tee, 6 off the 10th tee, 7 off the 14th tee.  Pin high slightly right in all cases.  3-putted 14 from 12’.  A little draw with the irons induced by finishing “high.”  I ate chicken goujons, chips, coleslaw, salad, creamed garlic, pot of white coffee; sitting on my own in the bar at the corner window.  Approximately €10 in total.  The three lovely lassies were ensconced beyond in the near corner of the dance floor.  Changed the password on my Windows Live account.  WordPress available in read-only mode.  Met Catherine Harvey (Kitty Cryan) in the library and Dominic McKevitt.  She answered, “Yes,” when I asked her if she remembered Tom Cormican.  Eamonn is teaching Dominic, a past-pupil of mine, in DkIT.  Drank a half-glass of white before Sinéad’s talk and a glass of Ballygowan afterwards.  A dark-haired woman helped me to put my stuff in the bag provided so that I could sit down with my glass after I had my photo taken.  A nice expression.  I think it cost €10 to enter the competition today.  Took down Seán Óg’s notice in the locker room about the junior fourball competition.  He rang after I arrived home from Greenore and I gave him the details of the 6 names on the list.  Although I did not get to bed until mid-night I had a lot of e-mail and trouble with Windows Live so I did not get round to my journal.  Writing now at 8.25 Wednesday I have just completed the journal entry for the past 3 days.
